Mitosis

This one-of-a-kind lamp was made as an experiment in form and function. The slip-cast porcelain utilizes a proprietary translucent recipe that we developed to create a self-glazing clay with a satin-white surface and a gentle, warm glow when lit. The porcelain globes slump during the climax of the firing and are inherently flawed, thereby creating a unique and unrepeatable form resembling two cells splitting. Two off-cut rectangular steel tubes hold the porcelain shade in place with tension, while carved brass washers and nuts secure the pieces together.
